Mugwort

Artemisia vulgaris L.

mugwort

Safety Notes

Contraindicated in pregnancy — genuine historical use as an abortifacient via uterine stimulation, a real and serious risk, not a mild caution. Avoid entirely if pregnant or trying to conceive. Same botanical family as ragweed (Asteraceae) — avoid if allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, daisies, or related plants; cross-reactivity with celery and certain spices (birch-mugwort-celery-spice syndrome) is also documented. Contains thujone, a compound that can affect the nervous system at high or concentrated doses — avoid if you have epilepsy, and do not use as a daily tonic or in concentrated extract form. Never ingest essential oil. Do not smoke.
