Dioscorea villosa

A common misconception is worth correcting directly: the diosgenin in wild yam is not converted into hormones by the human body — that conversion only happens in a laboratory setting during pharmaceutical synthesis. Wild yam itself has no confirmed hormonal effect when consumed. Generally well tolerated; large doses may cause nausea. Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or nursing.
