Hyssop

Hyssopus officinalis L.

hyssop

Safety Notes

Dried-leaf tea in moderate amounts (up to a few cups daily) is generally well tolerated by most healthy adults. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone with a seizure disorder (epilepsy) — hyssop's essential oil compounds have a documented, genuine seizure risk at concentrated doses, and this caution is extended to the whole herb out of caution even though the tea contains far lower concentrations than the oil. Consult a healthcare provider before use if you take anticonvulsant or other central-nervous-system medication. Hyssop essential oil should never be taken internally under any circumstances.
