New Moon Intention

Modern practice · Ritual

Beginnings

Modern practice. Written for this library. No historical source is claimed.

What this is

A short, quiet practice for the day or two after a New Moon: write one clear intention about your own life, say it aloud, and name one small action to take that week.

Method

  1. Choose ten quiet minutes within a day or two after the New Moon.
  2. Write one intention in a single present-tense sentence about your own life or conduct, for example: 'I finish the first draft of the report.' Keep it about what you will do, not what someone else will do.
  3. Read it aloud once, slowly.
  4. Below it, write one small action you can take this week.
  5. Fold the paper and keep it where you will see it. Reread it at the Full Moon.

Materials

  • Paper and a pen
  • A candle (optional)

Timing

  • Moon: New Moon

The Moon is New for about a day, so the day after is fine too.

Context

A modern practice written for this library. Keeping time by the Moon is very old and widespread; this particular sequence is modern, and no historical source is claimed for it.

Tradition, history and personal practice. Not medicine, and not a substitute for professional care.
