Significant interaction risk: its primary constituent, berberine, inhibits liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2D6) involved in metabolizing many medications — consult a pharmacist or physician before combining with any prescription drug. Avoid during pregnancy, as it has traditionally been used as a uterine stimulant and there is a theoretical concern regarding newborn bilirubin processing if used near birth. Not for prolonged continuous use. Wild goldenseal is at-risk from overharvesting — source only from certified cultivated (not wild-harvested) suppliers.
