Inula helenium
Tall, stately perennial with large leaves and big yellow daisy-like flowers, grown for its thick aromatic root.
Origin: Europe and Asia
Growing Notes: Full sun to part shade, rich moist soil.
Traditionally used to support respiratory comfort.
Simmer 1-2 tsp dried root, covered, 15-20 min.
Dosage: Decoction: 1-2 tsp dried root per cup.
Generally well tolerated. Avoid during pregnancy. Avoid if allergic to ragweed/daisy family plants — elecampane has caused contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals.
