Contains salicin, which the body converts to salicylic acid — chemically related to aspirin. Avoid if allergic or sensitive to aspirin/salicylates. Not recommended for children or teenagers, particularly during a viral illness, due to a theoretical Reye's syndrome risk. Avoid during pregnancy and nursing. May increase bleeding risk — avoid before surgery, avoid combining with NSAIDs or blood-thinning medication, and avoid with stomach ulcers, gastritis, kidney or liver conditions without professional guidance.
