The Chariot
Cheth (ח)
Cancer (Sign)
Path 18: Binah → Geburah
Herb: Myrrh
Upright
Willpower, determination, victory through focused control.
Reversed
Loss of control, lack of direction, obstacles.
What the Golden Dawn actually taught
Closely aligned: “triumph, victory, health, success, though sometimes not stable and enduring.” The one addition is an explicit caution that the Chariot’s win may not last, a nuance softer modern readings often drop.
Imagery & symbolism
An armored figure stands within a chariot pulled by two sphinxes, one black, one white, facing opposite directions yet somehow drawing the same way. He holds no reins, only a wand, and moves by will alone.
