Kudzu

Pueraria montana var. lobata (Willd.) Sanjappa & Predeep

kudzu

Safety Notes

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding — one study noted a notably high rate of pregnancy loss among participants using kudzu root, a real signal worth taking seriously even though overall safety data remains limited. Some case reports link kudzu root to liver injury; anyone with a liver condition should avoid use. Has real phytoestrogenic (estrogen-like) activity — this may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control, so discuss use with a healthcare provider if this applies to you. May affect blood sugar and blood clotting — consult a healthcare provider before use if you take diabetes medication or blood thinners, and discontinue at least two weeks before any planned surgery.
