Deciduous shrub with clusters of white flowers followed by dark purple berries.
Origin: Europe
Growing Notes: Full sun to part shade, moist rich soil, fast-growing.
Traditionally used seasonally to support the immune system; berries must be cooked before use.
Simmer 1-2 tsp dried berry, covered, 10-15 min; raw/uncooked berries and other plant parts are not for consumption.
Dosage: Decoction/syrup: 1-2 tsp dried berry per cup, simmered.
Not recommended for long-term daily use without breaks; consult a healthcare provider if you have an autoimmune condition or take immunosuppressant medication. Only cooked/processed berries should be consumed — raw berries, seeds, leaves, and bark can cause GI upset.
