Use with caution if you have bleeding disorders, as it may affect clotting. It has shown hypoglycemic activity in animal studies, so people with diabetes — especially those on insulin or blood sugar medication — should monitor levels closely to avoid hypoglycemia. It has documented antifertility effects in animal studies and is probably best avoided by women trying to conceive; safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, so avoid both. Because it may affect kidney function, anyone with existing kidney disease should consult a healthcare provider before use, despite its traditional use FOR kidney stones. Limited safety data exists for children — consult a healthcare provider first. This is a traditional remedy, not a substitute for medical evaluation of a suspected kidney stone, especially with severe pain, fever, or blood in the urine.
