This is a genuine interaction to know about, not a minor footnote: Chasteberry can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control and hormone replacement therapy, and regulatory bodies in Australia and Canada have specifically warned that it may interfere with contraceptive efficacy — an unintended pregnancy has been reported with concurrent use. Because it acts on dopamine receptors, it may also counteract dopamine-affecting medications, including antipsychotics and Parkinson's medications. Avoid during pregnancy (discontinue if you become pregnant) and breastfeeding. Those with a hormone-sensitive condition, including estrogen-receptor-positive breast, ovarian, or uterine cancer, should avoid it. If you are on any hormonal medication or fertility treatment, or being evaluated for a menstrual or hormone-related concern, talk with your healthcare provider before starting Chasteberry — and see a doctor for persistent irregular bleeding, severe pelvic pain, or other symptoms of a hormone disorder rather than self-treating.
